Detailed review
My opened Sprite inspection
In this review, I inspect the exposed movement in the Sprite I identify as VSF, then weigh its detached caseback. The scale reads 6.53 g at 2:56. I also point out the rotor bearing, balance-area features, markings and red wheel that inform my DD3285 identification. These are useful sample details, but they do not all carry the same evidential weight.
If you have a movement photo you want to compare with this recording, message me through the WhatsApp button on this page. I can help you check which details are actually visible and which need a clearer view.
The sample and the strongest evidence
- The caseback is already removed when I begin the inspection; the recording does not demonstrate the unscrewing procedure.
- The detached back produces a visible 6.53 g scale reading. This is a component measurement, not the weight of the complete watch.
- I identify the movement as Dandong 3285 and describe this particular example as the regulated configuration.
- The later close-ups document the features I point to, with limits on what their appearance alone can establish.
The bracelet has Jubilee-style five-piece links. I introduce the watch as a VSF Sprite, corresponding to the GMT-Master II 126720VTNR design. This recording concentrates on the back of the watch: it does not provide a dial-side configuration check or a readable reference engraving. The model association therefore includes my identification of the watch, rather than an independent reading of its reference. No manufacturing batch or numbered factory version is established.
What the 6.53 g caseback reading establishes
At 2:56, the detached caseback is on the scale and the display reads 6.53 g. The sequence includes a zero display before placement and after removal. That makes the measured object clear: the separate back, without the movement, case or bracelet.
In my commentary, I associate this back with the regulated movement and say that regulated and free-sprung examples have different caseback weights. Only one back is weighed here. I do not weigh a second back from an independently established free-sprung example, document its construction, or show a certified calibration check. My broader comparison remains an experience-based explanation; 6.53 g is the recorded result for this sample, not a universal identification threshold.
This adds a different kind of evidence to my Sprite whole-watch weight and caliper review. Its assembled-watch reading and this detached component reading are not interchangeable, and the recordings do not establish that both concern the same physical watch. I would not subtract one from the other to infer a movement or case weight.
How I inspect the exposed movement
At about 3:17, I point to the central rotor bearing. The English caption combines the terms “27-jewel” and “ball bearing rotor.” I would not turn that wording into a verified count of 27 bearing balls. A jewel-count inscription and the bearing at the rotor centre are different observations; this recording contains no complete jewel inventory or controlled bearing-ball count.
Around 3:31, I point to gold-tone features near the balance while describing the regulated configuration. Their location and appearance are visible, but I do not adjust them or demonstrate their individual functions. This view supports a record of the area inspected, not a complete functional analysis of the regulating system.
At 3:54, I describe an “ES” prefix. I retain that as my spoken identification: the full serial is not sufficiently clear in this recording to independently transcribe it. At 4:10, I point to the visible “3285” engraving. The engraving is useful to document, but the number itself does not authenticate the movement's manufacturer.
Near the end, I describe a wheel as vermilion red and contrast it with a brighter red that I associate with Shanghai 3285. That is my comparative judgement. There is no authenticated Shanghai movement alongside this sample, and lighting, exposure and reflections affect colour. I would use this cue alongside structural evidence, rather than classify a movement from wheel colour alone.
Regulated, free-sprung and identification limits
My discussion distinguishes the regulated sample on the table from a free-sprung configuration. It does not show both mechanisms side by side, establish how the alternative is regulated, or provide a timing or power-reserve test. A reference to a later rollout in the commentary also lacks a confirmed recording year; it should not be read as a current availability statement.
For related opened-movement evidence, see my BLNR DD3285 inspection and the DD3285 movement page. The earlier inspection's unconfirmed prefix description should not be silently replaced by this recording's ES attribution. Different source descriptions remain separate unless clearer evidence resolves them.
A community identification guide discusses comparing several structural features and warns that familiar visual shortcuts can become unreliable as movements change. That is useful community context, not verification of this sample. My recommendation is to retain an overall movement view, an unobstructed balance-area view and readable markings, rather than rely on one colour, inscription or weight.

Strengths
Opened movement views and detached-caseback display6.53g, with distinct records of markings and author identification cues.
What to watch for
No comparative free-sprung mechanism or caseback, certified calibration, complete bearing/jewel count or demonstrated regulator adjustment. Serial prefix remains spoken attribution.

Questions answered
Does a 6.53 g caseback prove a regulated DD3285 is fitted?
No. It records the detached back's displayed mass in this review. A single component measurement cannot establish the regulating system or movement manufacturer, and no comparative free-sprung back is weighed here.
Is this a demonstrated free-sprung VSF Sprite?
No. I describe the inspected sample as regulated. I discuss a free-sprung alternative, but do not demonstrate its mechanism or verify a factory-wide transition in this recording.
