Inside My VSF Panda Daytona: The Free-Sprung Claim and Caseback Check

Detailed review
What this opened Panda inspection adds
In this review, I inspect an already-opened Daytona that I identify in the recording as a VS Factory Panda with a Dandong 4131 movement. I focus on the balance area and weigh the detached caseback. The useful question is what those views actually establish when a movement is described as “free-sprung.”
If you have a movement photo you want to compare with mine, message me through the existing WhatsApp button. I can help you check the visible arrangement and identify what still needs a closer inspection.
What this inspection establishes
- The movement is exposed and the detached cover is visible; the caseback-unscrewing procedure itself is not demonstrated.
- I describe one visible arm in the balance area and contrast it with an earlier arrangement from my experience. That is an identification cue, not a demonstrated regulation method.
- At 2:34, the scale shows 7.43 g with the detached cover resting on its platform. I say 7.4 g in the narration. Neither figure is the weight of the complete watch.
- VSF, Panda and DD4131 are my spoken identifications. This rear-facing inspection does not establish an exact reference engraving, a numbered factory version or manufacturing date.
I separately confirm this sample as the 126500LN Panda configuration. That is my identification as the person who filmed it, not a reference engraving established by this rear-facing footage. The Oyster-style three-piece-link bracelet is visible from the rear. I do not use this footage to confirm the dial layout or turn its source-file number into a factory generation.
The balance-area detail I point out
From 2:51 to 3:30, I point toward the balance assembly and describe an arrangement with one visible arm. I contrast it with an older arrangement that I remember as having two visible arms, including a gold-tone detail on the right. There is no second opened movement beside this sample, so that historical comparison remains my professional recollection.
The supplied English wording alternates between “regulator pins,” “arm” and “single stud.” I would not use those terms interchangeably to count the actual regulating components. An external arm or stud-carrier detail is not, by itself, a complete view of how the hairspring and rate adjustment work.
In the recording I call this a free-sprung upgrade. The narrower conclusion supported here is that I show and discuss a particular balance-area arrangement on this opened sample. I do not remove the balance bridge or demonstrate rate adjustment, and the footage does not establish a functioning variable-inertia system. I therefore retain “free-sprung” as my recorded description rather than a mechanically verified specification for this watch or every VSF Daytona.
What would substantiate a free-sprung claim?
For comparison, Rolex describes genuine calibre 4131 as using a variable-inertia balance adjusted through Microstella nuts. That description concerns the genuine movement; it does not authenticate a replica bearing a similar calibre name.
A relevant community discussion about DD4131 regulation distinguishes a free-sprung appearance from the way a movement is actually regulated. Contributors make different servicing claims. I treat those comments as questions to investigate, not a verified teardown of my sample.
What I would ask for next is a clear view of the balance assembly and a qualified watchmaker's explanation of the actual rate-adjustment mechanism. A single visible arm, a supplier label or an exterior photograph does not answer that question. My DD4131 evidence page provides the related movement context.
The detached caseback: display versus narration
The weighing sequence runs from 2:24 to 2:44. The watch remains off the scale while its removed cover is placed on the platform. The display changes during handling; at 2:34, with the cover resting and my hand clear, it reads 7.43 g. My spoken 7.4 g is a rounded description, not a second measurement.
I also say the caseback weight has changed from before. This video does not weigh the earlier cover alongside it, establish the alloy or reveal a weighting insert. I cannot derive a manufacturing change from this weighing alone. Calibration and controlled repeatability are not documented.
My earlier opened-Daytona inspection contains a separate cover-weighing record. It is useful comparison material, but it is not a controlled before-and-after test of this watch. Likewise, my Panda whole-watch measurements concern a different measurement setup; complete-watch mass and detached-cover mass should stay separate.

Strengths
Opened-movement views and traceable detached-cover weighing, with the recorded free-sprung claim separated from verified mechanical construction.
What to watch for
Reference126500LN confirmed separately by the original author; factory generation and manufacturing date unconfirmed. No inspection beneath the balance bridge, rate-adjustment demonstration, timegrapher, reserve or pressure test. Caseback weighing is sample-bound.

Questions answered
Does this video prove the DD4131 is mechanically free-sprung?
No. It records my identification and the visible balance-area detail, but not the rate-adjustment mechanism or an inspection beneath the balance bridge.
Can I identify the version from the 7.43 g caseback reading?
No. That is a displayed result from this filmed setup. It does not establish material, factory origin, a batch-wide specification or a numbered version.
