VSF Sprite DD3285: My Rotor-Bearing and Regulator Checks

Detailed review
My Sprite movement inspection
In this review, I examine an exposed movement in a VSF-attributed Sprite and explain the rotor-bearing and regulator-area details I use when checking a DD3285. One distinction matters particularly here: my English commentary says “7-ball bearing,” while the movement view also carries a “THIRTY-ONE 31 JEWELS” inscription. Those are different descriptions, and this recording does not establish an exact bearing-ball count.
If you are comparing a movement photograph with this inspection, message me through the WhatsApp button on this page. I can help you identify which detail a description refers to and where a closer view is still needed.
What this recording adds
- At 1:12, the central rotor bearing and the separate 31 JEWELS inscription are visible together. Neither the inscription nor my spoken count substitutes for a verified bearing inspection.
- At 1:46–2:08, I explain a silver-tone versus gold-tone feature near the regulator, including a left/right comparison that needs a consistent viewing orientation.
- At 3:24, the detached caseback produces a 6.53 g display. It is another recorded measurement, not proof of a second physical sample or a factory specification.
- At 3:45, I turn the inspected watch dial-side up: the green/black bezel, left-side crown and date window, and Jubilee-style bracelet identify the Sprite configuration shown here.
The visible configuration corresponds to the GMT-Master II 126720VTNR design. VSF and Dandong 3285 are my identification of the watch and movement; no authenticated reference engraving, factory production record or numbered version is established. The caseback is already off when the movement inspection begins.
Rotor bearing: keep the count separate from the inscription
At 1:08–1:29, I direct attention to the central rotor axle and use the phrase “7-ball bearing rotor.” The close-up documents the bearing area, but I do not remove the rotor or isolate and count its bearing elements. I therefore retain seven as the source's stated count, not a verified specification for this sample or every VSF DD3285.
The nearby 31 JEWELS inscription is a separate visible marking. It does not mean 31 rotor-bearing balls, nor does reading it verify a complete inventory of functional jewels. This distinction also qualifies the ambiguous “27-jewel” bearing wording discussed in my earlier Sprite open-caseback review. Different caption numbers do not establish a movement revision or a hardware change between the recordings.
A RepTimeServices discussion about DD3285 rotor replacement contains competing bearing descriptions and owners' reports about rotor noise. It explains why buyers ask about this area, but those comments do not verify this watch's count, noise level, durability or replacement-part compatibility. I perform no controlled noise comparison here.
The regulator cue needs an oriented view
In my commentary at 1:46–2:08, I describe a small silver-tone feature to one side of the regulator and contrast it with a gold-tone feature on the other side that I associate with Shanghai 3285. The camera shows the balance area while I point, but it does not show an authenticated Shanghai movement alongside it or demonstrate an adjustment.
I would use that explanation as a prompt to inspect the structure, not as a universal “right means Dandong” rule. Rotating the watch changes left and right, reflections change apparent colour, and the pointer obscures part of the area. For a useful comparison, keep the movement orientation consistent and obtain an unobstructed view. The DD3285 movement page provides related background without turning this particular camera view into a factory-wide identification test.
I also describe an ES prefix, point to the visible 3285 marking, and discuss a dark red reversing wheel. The full serial is not independently legible here; engraving depth is my assessment, and wheel colour has no controlled comparator. These cues remain supporting observations and professional judgement, rather than authentication on their own.
The weight supports the record, not the mechanism claim
The scale displays 6.53 g with the detached back at 3:24; I round it to 6.5 g in the commentary and associate it with the regulated configuration. I mention a different weight for a free-sprung alternative, but weigh only one back. No certified calibration, comparison back, timing test or power-reserve test is shown. The matching reading in the earlier review does not establish that the two recordings concern different physical watches.
Sources & provenance
Strengths
Opened movement, separate bearing/inscription record, oriented regulator discussion and a Sprite dial-side check.
What to watch for
Exact bearing count and full serial unverified; no authenticated SH comparison, tested free-sprung alternative, calibrated mass standard or timing test.
Movement summary
Dandong3285 / DD3285 — opened sample, author identification; exact bearing count unverified
Questions answered
Does “7-ball bearing” confirm a particular VSF DD3285 version?
No. It is the wording used in this recording. The bearing is visible, but its exact count is not independently verified, and neither the 31 JEWELS inscription nor the detached-back weight establishes a factory version or regulating architecture.

Current status
Sample observations and author/community claims remain distinct.
